Health Care

PROLASA provides primary health care to the people of around Lake Kivu through the following health centres:

  • PROLASA Medical Centre in Goma
  • Rubaya Health Centre in the Masisi District
  • Kashébéré Health Centre on the Island of Idjwi

PROLASA’s Medical Centre in Goma was destroyed by the lava flow from Mount Nyiragongo in 2001. Since that time it has been operating in rented facilities however our lease came to an end in 2007 and PROLASA was obliged to temporarily close the Goma Medical Centre. Land has been purchased for the construction of a new Medical Centre and it is hoped that construction will begin early in 2008.

The medical clinic on the Island of Idjwi offers basic health services. With this small and simple building the services which can be offered are limited. Land has been purchased to build a new clinic. Until construction, however, people will be walking long distances through the forested hills for medical care from this simple clapboard clinic.idjwi_clapboard_medical_clinic
