Miss-A-Meal

We are excited to announce our new fund raising campaign… Miss-A-Meal!

The Miss-A-Meal Campaign is really quite simple. On Sunday, November 22nd, all of the participants, as well as Désiré Murhima, project administrator for PROLASA Congo, will skip one meal in recognition of poverty and hunger in Africa. In the meanwhile, we will all collect sponsorships from people for missing the meal. Money collected will be used to send a shipping container to the Democratic Republic of Congo. This forty foot container will be filled to the brim with medical supplies, medical equipment, teaching materials, school supplies, farming equipment, much needed clothing, shoes and other important necessities. All of these items will make a huge impact on the health and wellness for those in the Lake Kivu area of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Every contribution counts. If you would like to make a contribution to the campaign, please go to our Contributions page. Remember to note that your contribution is for the Miss-A-Meal campaign.

If you would like to go one step further and volunteer to participate in the campaign please contact our office via phone or email so that we can help you to get started.

If you would like more information about the Miss-A-Meal (MAM) campaign please take a look at our miss-a-meal-faqs page.

Follow Our Progress

September 18:

The project is starting to move. The website was updated and the first people have been contacted about the project. We are really excited to watch the project grow. It’s an ambitious goal and we are eager to make progress towards getting all of these valued items to Congo.

September 24:

In order to send the container we must raise a grand total of $15,000. At this moment, our fund is $665. This is puts us at nearly 5% of our total goal and we are barely getting started! Thanks to all who have helped already. Keep up the great work!

October 2:

The project is starting to gain momentum and our first wave of participants is off to a great start in raising money for the container shipment. We are up to 10% of our goal! The map below shows how far we’ve gotten. Why not take the shortest route? Well, there is no road that crosses the Democratic Republic of Congo from one side to the other so the container has to be sent to Kenya by ship and than it will travel West to the Congo through Uganda. By the time it arrives the container will have travelled nearly 18,000 km.

October 23:

We’re continuing to move forward… We have currently received donations totaling 28% of our goal! Today we were able to contact PROLASA’s administrator in Congo and shared with him the progress of the container project with Miss-A-Meal. He was very happy to hear of the progress and was thrilled of the plans to send a container filled with equipment and supplies.

November13:

With only two weeks left until the ‘missed meal’ of November 22nd we’re hoping for an eager push to collect the needed donations to help us to reach our goal. We currently sit at about 60% but momentum has increased with the deadline approaching so we are hopeful to reach our final goal as last minute donations continue to arrive.

November 22:

It’s the big day! Our best wishes go out to all those who have contributed to this campaign. A special thanks goes out to those who were able to collect sponsorships in order to raise funds. We are very pleased to announce that the needed $15,000 has been raised. Any additional funds collected will go towards more equipment and supplies to ensure that the container is filled to the brim.

As participants skip one meal today let’s remember the needs of those around the world, both abroad and nearby. Let’s also remember the ways that we can reach out to be of help to those in needs. Our help may be through financial support or other ways but it is important to remember than we can make a difference in the lives of others.

December 10:

The ‘missed meal’ has come and gone. We hope that it was an interesting exercise for all participants involved. Certainly a reminder for necessities and luxuries that we can easily take for granted.

Donations continue to trickle in. We have also received a list from workers in Congo showing the biggest needs for the children and for the medical work and we will be working with any surplus funding to see these needs met.

Where are we so far…?

The container will travel by ship to the port in Mombasa, Kenya.

From there it will travel overland to Goma in the DRCongo.
